La Trinidad de Cuellar, Segovia
Este antiguo Convento de Trinitarios fue edificado en el S XVI por los monjes Trinitarios, como ampliación de una ermita mudéjar, situada en la puerta de la muralla, de la que aun se conserva el ábside con sus arcos románicos de ladrillo. La construcción se llevó a cabo gracias a la fundación de las familias velázquez, Bazán y Rojas, que a cambio obtuvieron el privilegio de ser enterrado en la capilla mayor.
A principios del S XIX debió quedar sin uso, y en 1809 las tropas napoleónicas lo utilizaron como cuartel. El edificio fue recuperado por la familia Rojas cuando salió a pública subasta con motivo de la Desamortización de Mendizábal. Se desmontaron entonces los altares y la nave se dedicó a panera, cilla o granero, como tantas otras en Castilla, algunas de las cuales han pasado a lo largo de diez años por estas paginas.
En 1934 el gran espacio de la nave se subdividió interiormente para su reconversión en una vivienda de tres plantas y características muy singulares.
Se accede por un portal de amplias dimensiones, anejo a una amplia cochera hoy destinada a garage. En el gran zaguán de entrada se encuentra la impresionante estatua yacente de Don Francisco de Guevara y Rojas, y de él parte una escalera de piedra que sube hasta la planta primera en la que se encuentran las zonas de estar y cocinas. Desde el salón se sube a la planta superior en la que se encuentran hasta 8 dormitorios, dos baños y dos aseos. Destaca el dormitorio principal situado en lo que fue el coro, bajo bóveda nervada de un gótico tardío, pero sobre todo el estudio que ocupa la parte alta del ábside, con piso de tarima, y en cuyos paños de pared se han situado las lápidas sepulcrales de los fundadores del convento con sus escudos de armas.
Lqa plementería de la bóveda estrellada data del siglo XVI, conadornos plateresacos y querubines. El catedrático Collar de Caceres ha estudiado recientemente las pinturas, y las atribuye al pintor Gabriel de Cárdenas, pintor cuyo tríptico de la Virgen de la Rosa se puede contemplar en el Museo del Prado.
La casa tiene un total de 350 m2, además de una bodega de unos 250 m2. Aneja a ella se encuentra la vivienda de los guardeses, así como una pequeña edificación auxiliar también adaptada como vivienda, actualmente alquilada a terceros. Con todo ello, según datos catastrales la superficie total edificada es de 828 m2, sobre un solar de 3.425 m2.
El estado de conservación del edificio es bueno, tanto en lo que hace a la estructura, cimentación y cubiertas. Aunque se ha conservado en uso hasta hace no mucho, las instalaciones son muy antiguas y precisan de una remodelación completa.
En la parte posterior de la casa hay unos jardines aterrazados que llegan hasta la muralla. En estos jardines, hoy faltos de cuidado, había una piscina y otros servicos auxiliares como cocina y barbacoa cubiertas.

Cuando Fernando de Aragón e Isabel de Castilla acuñaron el real, la primera moneda del reino unificado de España, mal podían imaginar que estaban echando las bases de tres fuertes íconos culturales que perdurarían hasta más allá del segundo milenio: el dólar, el signo de pesos o de dólar ($) y el "bit", la unidad básica de información de mi computadora y de la que Ud. está usando para leer esta página.
En 1497, pocos años después de la victoria definitiva sobre los moros, con el reino recién unificado y ya en los albores de la más fantástica expansión económica, política y cultural de la corona heredada de los visigodos, España sintió la necesidad de contar con una divisa común para los dominios de Fernando e Isabel.
Fue así como nació el "real de a ocho", una moneda bimetálica, con versiones de plata y oro (el llamado excelente). Había también monedas de dos, cuatro y ocho reales, ésta última conocida como duro, de plata o, el de oro, el "peso fuerte".Con tales características, el real se expandió rápidamente por toda Europa y por el norte de África, impulsado por el creciente poderío de la España conquistadora. Y como suele ocurrir con las divisas de los imperios poderosos, el real de los Reyes Católicos fue reproducido durante varios siglos en toda Europa, en el norte de África y hasta en el Medio Oriente, donde perdura hasta hoy como rial en Omán y en Yemen y como riyal en Arabia Saudita y en Qatar.
Por otra parte, el peso fuerte, o simplemente "peso", designa hasta hoy la divisa de varios países latinoamericanos en algunos de los cuales el recuerdo del real resuena aún como eco remoto en la memoria popular, como subdivisión de la unidad principal más fuerte. Es el caso de Uruguay donde, al haber desaparecido hace muchos años la división de la moneda en ocho partes, se suele llamar familiarmente real a las monedas de diez centavos, como porfiada reminiscencia del sistema monetario instituido hace más de 500 años por Fernando e Isabel.
El real de los monarcas católicos lucía en su anverso la imagen de las columnas de Hércules, en el extremo occidental del Mediterráneo, entre Calpe (hoy Gibraltar) y Ábila (hoy Ceuta), que habían sido consideradas hasta poco tiempo antes como los límites del mundo, más allá de lo cual nada se conocía, pero a cuyo respecto se intuían cosas temibles. Según la mitología antigua, Hércules había inscrito en las columnas la frase Nec plus ultra (no más allá), para indicar que aquel lugar era el fin del mundo. Pero los soberanos españoles, imbuidos del orgullo que les cabía por haber roto los límites del mundo y alcanzado el Nuevo Continente, inscribieron en la moneda una cinta de trazos curvos con la inscripción Plus ultra, para destacar así la hazaña de su imperio.
Más adelante, a medida que la imprenta se difundía por el mundo, se creó un nuevo signo para representar la moneda, formado por dos rectas verticales que representaban las columnas de Hércules y una curva sinuosa que substituía la cinta con el plus ultra. Era el signo de pesos ($)¸ que los norteamericanos rebautizaron como signo de dólar y que, desde hace pocas décadas en Estados Unidos se ha simplificado mediante la eliminación de una de las líneas verticales.
La primera vez que el peso fuerte y el real fueron reproducidos en el exterior, lo fueron por obra del conde Schlick, gobernador del valle de Joachimstahl, en la región Bohemia, situada en las tierras de la actual República Checa. En 1516, se descubrió en aquel valle una nueva mina de plata, que vino a sumarse a los numerosos veneros ya existentes en la región. En lugar de fundir el metal y venderlo en barras o lingotes, nuestro conde decidió que acumularía más poder si acuñaba una nueva moneda, propia de Joachimstahl. Y así lo hizo. Copiando el molde de la moneda española, Schlick acuñó una moneda de plata a la que llamó joachimstahlergulden.
Si este nombre le parece al lector demasiado largo, tiene la misma opinión que expresaron hace casi cinco siglos los habitantes de aquel valle perdido en la Bohemia, en lo que hoy es la República Checa, quienes en poco tiempo abreviaron el nombre de la nueva moneda, primero, a joachimstahler, y más tarde, a tahler, voz que entró al castellano como tálero.
A lo largo de varios siglos, el tálero se extendió por Europa, llegó a las tierras bajas de Holanda, cruzó el Báltico y luego recorrió la ruta de los vikingos, llegando a las Islas Británicas y a Escocia, cuyos habitantes prefirieron adaptar el nombre germánico y le llamaron dólar. En Inglaterra, esta moneda sería olvidada más tarde, pero el tálero siguió expandiéndose por Europa hasta el siglo XVIII. En efecto, una de las marcas más notables del reinado de la emperatriz María Teresa, que consolidó el Imperio Austrohúngaro, fue la creación de un nuevo tálero, tal vez el más fuerte de todos dado el poder que ostentaba en esa época la Casa de Habsburgo, tanto que la moneda imperial perduró hasta 1939 cuando las tropas de HItler llegaron a Viena.
En 1776, pocos años después de la creación del tálero austrohúngaro, los habitantes de las trece colonias británicas de la América del Norte se declaraban independientes y proclamaban la república, con la creación de los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica. Pero la nueva nación necesitaba una moneda propia, diferente de la usada en la metrópolis con la que acababan de guerrear, de modo que los dirigentes del flamante país hurgaron en la memoria histórica de sus antepasados y escogieron como nombre el dólar, siempre con base en el peso fuerte de ocho reales.
Hasta el siglo XIX, el real español circuló en Estados Unidos, donde valía 12,5 centavos de dólar y era llamado "bit" Hasta bien entrado el siglo XX, los norteamericanos mantuvieron el recuerdo de esta división en ocho partes y llamaron four-bits (cuatro partes entre ocho) a la moneda de medio dólar y hasta hoy, muchos todavía recuerdan la denominación --actualmente en desuso en las grandes ciudades-- de two-bits (dos partes) como sinónimo de quarter (un cuarto) para designar a las monedas de 25 centavos.
Vemos así que el uso de bit con el significado de una parte entre ocho, es bastante más antiguo que los primeros ordenadores, con su sistema binario y sus bytes, las unidades de memoria formadas por ocho bits. Lo que nos demuestra que la conocida afirmación de que el vocablo bit proviene de Binary digIT (dígito binario), es una invención posterior de los historiadores de la moderna informática.

Hi there would you mind sharing which blog platform you're using?
